training

I have been trying to find a nanny job since moving here. It turns out that in Philly a lot of people don't have nannies. Or if they do, they don't like you bringing your child to work with you. Maybe it's just because we are new to the area and I don't really know where to look but I am finally giving up. It has been so nice spending so much one on one time with Elinor though.

I've been racking my brain on what I really like. I loved being a nanny and really saw myself doing it for as long as I could. I knew working at a daycare just isn't for me. I started doing a lot of yoga to keep myself busy, happy and healthy. There have been days were I just want to break down. Then I get my mat out and within a few breaths and poses, I'm feeling 100% better with a clear mind.

I get a million emails from groupon and usually ignore them unless something catches my eye. A few months ago a yoga teacher training deal popped up. I got really excited telling Dave about it and then I realized it was in NYC. Bummer. I kept it in the back of my mind though. After Dave bringing it up and pushing me to look into another one, I found a few training classes in Philly. I went with one that sounded like it fit me perfect and after some more pushing from Dave and my friend Ryan, I finally signed up and started teacher training classes yesterday!

The class is fun but hard. Day one we were already pairing off and instructing each other. I'm hoping with becoming confident with my practice I will be able to easily teach. I will update a little on here how classes are going. I'm so excited to take this journey.

  1. Caitlin, that's awesome & exciting! I used to teach yoga to adolescent girls & I loved it. I've always wanted to go through teacher training & teach on a higher level.

  4. Congrats on your new endeavor! A tip for the nanny job: try posting a ad for watching children in your home. I think the term "nanny" turns some people off that are not looking for live-in childcare. Good luck!

    1. I tried that too and even part time babysitting. Boston has such a high demand for nannies that I still get calls asking if I can recommend anyone

  6. That's REALLY exciting! Would you consider yoga classes for kids? I know that's a huge niche right now, and would combine your two loves. My kids do yoga all the time and it's absolutely wonderful. There's lots of moms looking for classes like that!

    1. Actually, that is something I really want to do! I took a yoga class with my former nanny charge and we both loved it. I'm also hoping to take a teacher training class geared towards kids classes sometime.

  7. It's good to see you're keeping such a positive attitude! It's hard when something isn't working out as you expected originally, but then exciting when a new door opens. The yoga training sounds like it could be your thing!

    1. It was really hard to make the call just for more info on the training. Once I took that step, everything started coming along quickly and I love it!
