We love our backyard. The more we work on it, the more I'm ready to put up a tent and live back there. We have thought about adding a sandbox but with the amount of outdoor cats in our neighborhood, it probably is a bad idea. Looking into natural playspaces and I remembered gravel pits! We took out the bushes around the tree that Elinor loves to run laps around and started the process of a rock pit.
The whole process didn't take too long or cost too much. We laid down some weed control fabric. It has holes so water won't collect. We ended up using 22 bags pea gravel and lined the whole thing with garden wall blocks. The gravel pit was finished in time for Elinor's half birthday party. The kids loved it! It even feels like our backyard is bigger now.
Now who wants to come over for a playdate?
That looks like SO MUCH FUN! You are the best Mama in the world. Love it! : ) I hope you can play outside today. This humidity is killer. YIKES!
ReplyDeletePure awesome! I have always avoided sandboxes because I get weirded out thinking about them. A gravel pit is a fabulous idea !!! My boys would love using their trucks in that!
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome idea! Wish we could come for a play date!

ReplyDeletesuper cute! and yeah... sandboxes in the city are probably not a good idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea and such a great place for the kids to play.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love this!! And I love how you did it around a tree. So amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us and this is an amazing idea. I have little ones and we too have a sandbox with a lid and we put a rock on it while they aren't playing because we have about 100 cats in our tiny little neighborhood and for some reason they flock to our house. I love this gravel pit idea though. Thanks for sharing!!
