night terrors

Shirts from Hello Apparel. Pretty accurate

A few times now, Elinor has woken up screaming. The other night it was so bad. She obviously wasn't awake. Whenever we tried to touch her or go near her, she would kick or hit us. I've never experienced this before. Her sleep has been off again and I'm feeling guilty. We got home after bedtime just about everyday last week. She had been doing so good going to sleep on time until we messed it up.

She also is talking in her sleep a lot too that makes me think maybe she is just working on new things and her brain is working overtime. She told me the other night while she was sleeping "something on my nose!" I thought she had woke up so I asked what. She said even more frantic "something on my nose! It's a a a a bumblebee!". I couldn't stop laughing. Either way this kid needs rest.

Any suggestions on night terrors? I haven't looked too into it yet. It was just really scary last time.

  1. Maya used to have those and talks in her sleep too! I think they must have busy brains and be super smart :)

  3. Oh how terrifying! I don't know much about night terrors, but has anything changed? From stress to food to something she's seen that's scary? Start there and work backward, that's what I usually do. Good luck. I hope it's just a quick thing that passes.

    1. I can't think about any food that is new but that is something great to think about. I will start keeping track. Thank you!

  4. Ok those shirts are hysterical! Love it!

Julia seems to have them as well. She has a very vivid imagination. Many times she will wake up and no matter what I do she won't snap out of it. "They" say though to let them be when this happens because you become part of their dream when you try to shake them out of it.

  5. Jack has had these too, especially when he was younger. My md said not to wake them because it might scare them even worse. He doesn't seem to remember them in the morning so I think it is scarier for us than it is for them. Usually when I come into his room he is sitting up and shaking and sobbing but he never truly seems awake.

  6. Poor baby! My girlfriends daughter had that happen when she was about 5 - they let her sleep with them for about 2 months and they went away. Maybe empower her with a spray bottle beside her bad that can zap away bad dreams - if she feels she's in control that way...maybe she can be in control while asleep?

    1. She was ing bed with us when the really bad one happened. I like that idea about being in control. I will try that. Thank you!

  7. I don't have any advice, but my son had them until he was two and then grew out of them. I have had night terrors all my life and still do. I hope that it is just a phase for her and she grows out of it soon.
